About Karl Quilter

I could write a great story about Karl Quilter and the modern day Angel Moroni sculptor, but as his son, he was just Dad. Being around sculpting projects and stepping into clay blobs on the floor was a natural part of growing up in our home. Experimenting with and fixing things with resin was common place.

Dad was as masterful a teacher as he was a sculptor. Dad taught generations of youth in Seminary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. As a matter of fact, the family joke is that you can’t go anywhere without running into someone that Dad taught.

The greatest lessons my Dad taught me were dedication to ones faith, family, and love of people. There was never a question where Dad stood with his faith. He loved the Lord and was fully committed to the work of the restoration of the gospel of Jesus Christ on the earth.

Dad had great joy in his posterity and love for his wife, children, and grandchildren was at it’s core. Dad was always interested in what was going on in ones life. As a matter of fact he would call so often that he would loving say, “this is just Pesky Pop calling to see how you are doing”.

Dad had true love for people. It seemed we could not go anywhere together without Dad stopping to talk to someone, even a complete stranger. After all, he knew there was some kind of connection somewhere with that person, you just had to find it.

I remember being at the drug store with Dad and became quite annoyed that he decided to strike up a conversation with the clerk (I was in a hurry and had somewhere to go!) I told him after, “why do you have to talk to everybody?” Being the master teacher, he just said, “Son, I love people”. That was it, he didn’t tell me what I needed to do, but the lesson was straight forward about what was most important.

Whenever I talk of Dad and his accomplishments, or about the kind of man he is, I am reminded that none of it could have been possible without my loving Mother at his side.
